Styling Masterclass with Steve Cordony
Recently attended a 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙫𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙮 — a widely recognised 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 whose work has shaped contemporary conversations around styling and lived-in elegance.
While styling is already a part of my own work, I chose to attend this workshop to better understand local sensibilities and how spaces are interpreted and experienced here.
Having relocated to Sydney last year, I’ve been consciously spending time observing how clients respond to environments, and how designers interpret lifestyle, restraint, and warmth across contexts.
𝐈𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐠𝐞𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐬:the principles of styling remain the same everywhere — layout and flow, balance and focal points, objects and accessories, colour, layering, scent, florals.
What truly changes is the story a space is asked to tell.
𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠.
Creating moments within a space begins with deeper questions:
– How do you want to live?
– How should it feel, smell, and sound?
– What memories, journeys, or emotions should it hold?
When these answers are clear, colour, form, and texture naturally fall into place.
𝐀𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞, these moments of reflection help me stay attuned to the Australian context — and design spaces that feel relevant, considered, and lived in.
